Póvoa de Varzim is both a colourful, authentic little fishing village and a vibrant, bustling seaside resort in high season, with a range of bars, restaurants, clubs as well as a casino and a beach that's perfect for surfing. This region is steeped in history and culture. The Orbitur Rio Alto campsite takes its name from the river that stops at Estela. Póvoa de Varzim is home to fishermen and other locals with a tie to seafaring tradition. The town's grandest feast day is held in celebration of Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishermen. The local cuisine is centred on fresh ingredients such as fish or regional vegetables. Eça de Queirós, one of Portugal's greatest writers, was born here in Póvoa de Varzim. Visit the ruins of the 18th-century aqueduct as well as the old windmills. Portugal's Douro region is packed full of cultural and sight-seeing gems, especially Oporto and its historic, UNESCO-listed Ribeira quarter. This luxury campsite is located just 150 metres away from the beach (complete with direct access), and within striking distance of an 18-hole golf course. Expect a variety of different features, facilities and services in high season: pool, bar, restaurant and self-service counter, supermarket and more.

Road
Coming from Viana do Castelo: IC1, then turn right after kilometre marker 325. Follow the signs. Coming from Lisbon: follow Porto-Arr, then Matosinhow Leixões N107. Then turn right after kilometre marker 325. When you entre Laundos, follow the blue signs to the campsite.
